On the 15th of May 2003, the Liberal and National Parties of Western Australia and the Coalition Against Drugs organised an anti-cannabis rally on the steps of Parliament House to protest the Cannabis Control Bill 2003. This bill will remove criminalpenalties, replacing them with a system of infringement fines for up to 30g and 2 non-commercial plants.The Bill is in its Second Reading in the Upper House and isexpected to pass any week now, with implementation taking approximately6 months.

In order to escape a court imposed deadline Ottawa says it will temporarily allow people to obtain marijuana for medical reasons while the federal government appeals an Ontario court decision over how it distributes the plant. Plus U.S. deputy drug czar, Barry Crane, is in Ottawa with the same old "We are not going to tell you what to do, but this is what we want you to do and this is what we are going to do to you if you don't do it".
