A 6-foot-tall marijuana plant has been confiscated from an Idaho Falls backyard.Kyleen Dereschuk and Victor Elia were allegedly growing a monster of a marijuana plant in plain sight behind their 6th Street house.The plant was a whole foot taller than the fence that surrounds the backyard. Police say you could easily spot it from the alley that runs past the yard.The plant was immediately removed. Police also found packaged marijuana in baggies inside the couple's home. They've been charged with manufacturing marijuana.

Earlier this week, the Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Department cleared marijuana grows in 6 separate locations, all within the National Forrest. In total, the Sheriff’s Department seized 16,800 mature marijuana plants. Police said marijuana plants found in a Rensselaer County home played no role in starting a fire that killed four people late Wednesday night. Police, municipalities and power companies now have more influence in the battle against marijuana grow-ops. Thursday, Community Safety Minister Monte Kwinter announced the changes to existing laws. In an attempt to try and stop grow-ops, the new measures will allow local hydro companies to cut off power to homes if it becomes a matter of safety or system reliability. The maximum penalties for fire hazards caused by poor wiring have also been doubled.

ELLICOTT CITY, Md. -- Three Howard High School students were caught with drug-filled gumballs and have been charged, police said, and more of the gumballs have been discovered in Virginia.The gumballs are called "greenades." Customs officials in Halifax say they've made the largest drug seizure ever in Atlantic Canada.Officers seized 11.5 tonnes of hashish worth $210 million Friday from a shipping container of cat food and cotton fabric from Pakistan.The seizure was due in part to a new mobile scanning system called a VACIS unit that uses gamma rays to look inside containers. http://www.cbc.ca/ns/story/ns_has20030122.html
