SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Medical marijuana protesters jeered federal drug agents conducting a raid Wednesday at a midtown Sacramento medical marijuana store.In a first for Sacramento, Drug Enforcement Agency officials served a search warrant at Capitol Alternatives, a marijuana dispensary at 16th and U streets.Protesters outside the store chanted "DEA, go away!" But a DEA official said the business was an illegal cannibis club. Three shop employees were detained, but no arrests were made.

After a complaint by a Sacramento City Council member, federal drug agents have raided a medical marijuana dispensary, the first such raid within the city limits.Drug Enforcement Administration agents swept into the storefront at 2020 16th Street around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. According to witnesses, three employees inside the store were held at gunpoint and made to lie on the floor. With a federal search warrant, DEA Special Agent in Charge Gordon Taylor said the raiders seized "several pounds of marijuana" as well as $48,000 in cash.

Mar. 23 - KGO - The Bush administration's point man on drug policy wants random drug testing in your child's school. John Walters was in the Bay Area Thursday to drum up support for his idea, but in a state that legalized medical marijuana, that may be hard to come by.Roughly 600 of the nation's 15,000 school districts now have random drug testing programs in place. The Bush administration has spent $8 million dollars to help pay for them, and the White House hopes to nearly double that amount next year.
