POT TV – Season one of “Dope State“.
A parody of VICE-style ‘news documentaries’ investigating weed, Dope State‘s first season has a few laughs in six episodes, and is worth a roll.
Since the original Reefer Madness era, mainstream journalism’s refusal to fact check flowers has been clear. How journalists simultaneously ignore the objective truth that marijuana is not inherently harmful, while pretending to uncover the dangerous world of weed, is a ripe target for satire. Though how do you compete with real life blowing literal hot air about pot?
Dope State‘s second episode, “No Country For Old Hippie“, got close to the seed of prohibition, when Dan Harmon lit up the commercialization of criminality in-between filthy freestyle raps.
