The Gold Coast businessman who is helping to fund the defence of accused drug smuggler Schapelle Corby has backed away from statements suggesting Bali prosecutors had sought bribes.
During a radio interview last month, Ron Bakir claimed prosecutors were open to bribes in exchange for a lighter sentence for the Queensland woman.
Mr Bakir, who will return to Bali tonight, now says the claims are “baseless” and has apologised to Indonesian authorities.
