11 tonnes of hash seized at Halifax port

Customs officials in Halifax say they’ve made the largest drug seizure ever in Atlantic Canada.

Officers seized 11.5 tonnes of hashish worth $210 million Friday from a shipping container of cat food and cotton fabric from Pakistan.

The seizure was due in part to a new mobile scanning system called a VACIS unit that uses gamma rays to look inside containers.
